Through the kaleidoscope ……

Through the kaleidoscope ……

One of the most intriguing images that I personally enjoyed in my childhood had been through the kaleidoscope. Each time I shook it, a beautiful mesmerizing pattern came up. It had such perfection and depth. In those days anyone who came back from a visit to Kanyakumari, the southernmost point of peninsular India and the place of confluence of three oceans, invariably purchased this squarish tube covered with dark magenta and violet colored paper.

Scripture portions have a similar effect on me, and perhaps it does for all believers. As my life traverses each day through knowns and unknowns, experiences thrilling and joyful, as well as dampening desolate paths, the insights that scripture gives me illuminates and refreshes me. Like the images in the kaleidoscope that brought joy to me in my childhood, scripture kept churning out one uplifting thought after another. It kept me grounded when I drifted off track. Sometimes I would be down in the dumps, finding no clue on how to go ahead, and there in scripture would be something that tugs at my heart and renews my mind in a way in which nothing else ever could. Time and again it has yielded just the epiphany, I needed at that moment. Like the book becomes alive when Lucy opens it in the Narnia series by CS Lewis, the characters and events in the scripture come alive and they reveal and teach me the lesson I need at that precise point in my life. I am so grateful for those wonderful moments I get to experience day after day deep within my soul. Those are mine and it's sometimes difficult to really transfer it to another person in the same way that it has illuminated me. But you can experience your own moments of epiphany if you were to read the scriptures, try to connect it to all that’s in you and store them. Then it will spring up and offer you just what you need at the right time.
